Project Overview
The 350 MW / 1,400 MWh Desert Crest Energy Storage facility will provide energy and capacity services to the APS grid, enhancing grid reliability and meeting energy demand affordably. The project will abide by the most stringent design and cutting-edge safety standards to ensure the project maximizes benefits to APS and Pinal County.
Construction of the Desert Crest facility is anticipated to start in 2027. The completion of the facility in 2029 will enable APS to meet its reliability needs and achieve its goal of adding over 2,000 MW of energy storage to its resource mix within the next decade.
Situated along a major transmission corridor feeding the Bianco substation, the site’s location on vacant land minimizes environmental impacts. Desert Crest’s site location is optimal for new energy infrastructure as it does not require long transmission lines to connect the facility to the power grid and is conducive to surrounding land uses.
